Evenings with Authors: Wiley Cash

Presented by Thurber House

Venue: Columbus Museum of Art

City: Columbus

Wiley Cash is the award-winning and New York Times best-selling author of A Land More Kind Than Home and the acclaimed This Dark Road to Mercy. He comes to Thurber House to discuss his latest release, The Last Ballad. Set in the Appalachian foothills of North Carolina in 1929 and inspired by actual events, The Last Ballad is the chronicle of an ordinary woman’s struggle for dignity and her rights in a textile mill in the face of oppression and injustice. Ella May Wiggins works the night shift at American Mill No. 2 in Bessemer City, North Carolina. The dirty, hazardous, low-wage job is the only way she can support her four young children after her no-good husband has run off again. Intertwining myriad voices, Wiley brings to life the heartbreak and bravery of the now forgotten struggle of the labor movement in early twentieth-century America.

Tickets are $25, or $20 for students and seniors. All tickets are $25 at the door. The reading and Q&A will last about an hour, with a book signing and a punch and cookies reception to follow.

Interested in having dinner with Wiley Cash? Call (614) 464-1032 x10 for tickets to The Author's Table Dinner.
