2018 OhioDance Festival and Conference Dance Matters: Pathways from Past to Present April 27-29, 2018 Ohio State University, Department of Dance, Columbus Ohio 43210 OhioDance, the state-wide dance network organization, will co-host its annual festival co-sponsored by Ohio State University, Department of Dance, Columbus. Events will take place at the OSU Dept. of Dance Studios and Barnett Theatre, Sullivant Hall, 1813 North High St. Columbus OH 43210. Dance Matters:  The theme of the conference is "Pathways from Past to Present".  The theme will focus on connections between historic, traditional cultural and today's popular dance forms. The guest artist for the conference is Karen Williams Hubbard. Ms. Hubbard is Associate Professor of Dance at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. She received her MA in dance from OSU. She teaches Vintage Jazz Dance, the jazz movement from the first half of the 20th century as well as cultural, historical/aesthetic aspects of the form. She has taught and performed all over the world including African and Kenyan Studies at the University of Nairobi as a Fulbright - Hays Scholar. Karen’s favorite professional memories are of when she performed as a “go-go girl” with the NBC Hullabaloo Dancers; toured and performed on Broadway as Ermengard in Hello Dolly! and appeared as a Paper Doll Munchkin proto-type and dancer in the film version of The Wiz! The three day weekend will have a Young Artist Concert, A professional evening concert, an award ceremony and three days of master classes.
