About the Event:

“Stunning and majestic…parts of the film play very much like his statement from the beyond.”—Variety Abbas Kiarostami’s final film presents 24 four-and-a-half-minute segments composed from the Iranian director’s still photographs of nature—with the notable exception of the first segment, based on a painting by Bruegel. Kiarostami then subtly animates these images to create tableaux that imagine the moments before and after the photo was taken. Like Kiarostami’s best works, it’s an idea that’s simultaneously simple and profound while playfully blurring the lines between dreams and waking life, artifice and reality. Kiarostami’s 1998 appearance at the Wex remains one of the most meaningful and memorable filmmaker visits in the center’s history. 24 Frames offers a powerful farewell from this cinematic titan, who passed away in July 2016. (114 mins., DCP)
