3:00pm Concert2:30pm Pre-concert talk with the ArtistsCondemned in France and banned in England upon its release in 1928, Carl Theodor Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc is now crowned as one of the greatest films ever made. In Voices Appeared, the film receives for the first time a soundtrack of music from the lifetime of the French Saint, performed by one of the world’s leading medieval vocal ensembles. The carefully selected repertoire is tailored to fit the emotional rhythms of this startling film, amplifying its sacred and historical contexts to produce a unique fusion of silent cinema and medieval music. The Orlando Consort has made an international reputation in the field of medieval and Renaissance vocal music and, through the group's imaginative programming, also embraces jazz, film and world music. The Orlando Consort regularly tours throughout the UK, Europe and the USA, including at the BBC Proms, Carnegie Hall, Edinburgh & Lucerne Festivals. They have recorded for Deutsche Grammophon and Harmonia Mundi USA (including 2 Gramophone Awards). Their next recording will be a 12-disc Machaut project with Hyperion Records. "No one ever goes away from one of their concerts without a smile of happiness at the artistic and human experience” ~ San Diego Chronicle
