Visual artist and independent art curator Don Scott exhibits part of his “CHAOS: Inside Out” series at Highline Coffee Art Space in Worthington beginning January 4, 2019. An artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2-4pm. A mixed media artist whose works are rooted in the photographic image, Scott relies on the world of nature as his primary source of inspiration. Much of his work evolves as he experiments with a variety of media and alternative processes. “I never planned to create a series about chaos,” Scott says. “My work from the last few years typically reveals the opposite: the innate order of nature in a chaotic world, captured from a micro, albeit somewhat abstract, view." "Several months ago, I innocently began experimenting with a new method of making images I had never tried before," he explains. "Initially, the results were disappointing. Progressing through several failures, I started editing them quite differently from earlier work, which triggered a re-evaluation and reworking of some older photographs I had on file. The new edits revealed a sense of chaos to me, bringing to mind visuals from REM periods of sleep, past personal experiences, and recent national events. I began to think about chaotic environments, both those we create within ourselves and those from the outside over which we have no apparent control.” Scott encourages viewers to look closely at each image "from their own personal perspective as a mean to discover what these works say and mean to them." As director of Highline Coffee Art Space, Scott continues to showcase the work of emerging, mid-career, and established artists who live in the central Ohio area. Over time, the Art Space presents a broad spectrum of media and style, from acrylic and oil painting to fine art photographs and mixed media work, and from realism to abstract art.
