The Ohio State University Faculty Club, in partnership with Columbus Museum of Art and Hammond-Harkins Galleries, will present a rare opportunity to view and purchase the works of Columbus artist Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson (1940-2015). The solo exhibition, which will also include an example from the Museum's collection, will be on display from February 28 through April 26, 2019. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.Included in this exhibition at The Faculty Club is a selection of work representative of the artist's oeuvre. One of the earliest works in the show is a drawing on handmade paper from 1988 depicting the migration of slaves to Canada. Also featured are paintings from the artist's series: The Presidential Suite, in dedication to President Barack Obama. There are works from one of the artist's several book projects, To Be a Drum; history booklets on vellum; and several of the artist's figure drawings combining her wonderful draftsmanship with the tactility and abstract qualities of buttons and fabric. Another series featured is Chronicles from the Village, which depicts the founding of Poindexter Village, connecting Columbus to a history reaching back to 1200 AD. Also included are mixed-media works inspired from the artist's trip to Israel in 1998; a large cloth painting of a map of Poindexter Village when it was still the Blackberry Patch; and a historic street map, a "teaching tool," also depicting the heart of Poindexter.
