Capriccio!-the vocal ensemble that brought you Haydn's Teresienmesse, Orff's Carmina Burana, and medleys from Les Mis and Phantom-will now present the "Sacred Songs" of none-other than Duke Ellington. Accompanied by a 16-piece jazz orchestra, the 70 members of Capriccio! will perform a suite of 10 songs written by Ellington in the last decade of his life. This is music that is redolent not only of jazz, but also of blues, gospel, spirituals, and classics. Beautiful vocal solos will stay with you long after the evening is done, and there will be a tap dance solo..

The concert will also introduce the Capriccio! Jazz Group, performing jazz stylings of several familiar songs. The evening will begin with several pieces by contemporary American composers-David Dickau, Z. Randall Stroope, Moses Hogan-and some haunting spirituals.

Conducting the Duke Ellington suite will be Larry Griffin, artistic director, with Karrie Horton, associate director at the helm in the first half. James Kucera will accompany at the piano.
