POINT OF REFERENCE - In Sculpture and Paintings
The Art of Gyuri Hollósy
June 18 - October 22, 2010
Exhibition of the works of Gyuri Hollósy including selections from his current and past sculptures and paintings.
In his series called 'Perpetual Motion,' abstract figures move symbiotically through space. Hollósy has given his tumbling forms a unique freedom of expression. Created with no defined top and bottom, the rhythm and energy between the figures are transformed simply by repositioning them in numerous ways.
Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Hollósy has developed a strongly delicate, unique and personal style. Drawing inspiration from the human figure, Hollósy's style is elegantly abstracted and reminiscent of armor plates, a direct result of his love and fascination for Medieval and Eastern armor.
The exhibit also includes earlier works of sculpture in a variety of styles as well as recent oil paintings.
The award winning artist's works are in private collections and galleries. Among his major commissions, his bust of Cardinal Mindszenty stands in Mindszenty Plaza in downtown Cleveland.
