Event
Why Eden? Arcadian Art and the California Dream
Thursday, March 18, 2010 (6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)
For centuries, artists have painted peaceful, pastoral settings where life is idyllic. Early in its history, California became associated with sunshine, health and opportunity - it is "The Golden State." This talk by The Dayton Art Institute's Chief Curator Will South examines both the state and its mythology through the lens of some of its most beautiful art, that of the California Impressionists. Dr. South will be available for a special book signing in The Museum Store, following the lecture, for his book titled California Impressionism. Reservations are encouraged - call 937-223-5277, ext. 318 or e-mail hartsock@daytonartinstitute.org.
In conjunction with the talk, a California Wine Tasting will be held in the museum's General Motors Entrance Rotunda, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. that evening. Flights of red and white California wines will be offered at $12.00 per flight. Wines may also be purchased by the glass.
