Ohio World Organization of China Painters (OWOCP)

About the Presenter:

The Ohio World Organization of China Painters is a non-profit arts organization devoted to the promotion, preservation, and education in the fine art of porcelain painting. OWOCP is made up of member clubs from Columbus, Lancaster, Mansfield, and Dayton areas: Columbus Porcelain Artists, Central Ohio China Painters Guild, Miami Valley Porcelain Art Guild, and Mansfield China Painters. The OWOCP was organized on October 8, 1966, in Mansfield, Ohio. Members meet throughout the year for painting, studying, sharing, and preserving the art and promoting public awareness of this painted tradition with endless possibilities through workshops with nationally known painters as well as local artists. A bi-annual school is held in Lancaster, Ohio that is open to the general public across the state and beyond and a public auction of porcelain painted pieces is a culminating event that promotes the art and raises educational funds that are shared among the clubs for future educational painting workshops. OWOCP hosts a bi-annual Show and Convention in the state where artists exhibit the art of porcelain painting and provide club exhibits, painting workshops, guest artist workshops, and demonstrations followed with an wonderful auction of porcelain art painted by members from across the state and drawings for raffle baskets with wide appeal to the artists and the public. The 2019 OWOCP Show and Convention will be held in Columbus Aug. 20-22, 2019, at the Annunciation Banquet and Conference Center, 555 High Street, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the Short North Arts District  close to the North Market. The events are open to the public and the auction is free to all. A collector, author, and porcelain art enthusiast from Cincinnati summed up the OWOCP's mission with, "The days of collecting antique porcelain are about over. The quality of modern work is every bit as good (often better) than the antique pieces. The future of porcelain art is in your hands." We want to share porcelain art with Ohioans and visitors to the state with an art that we share with historical traditions and endless modern possibilities. We welcome all. Our parent organization is the World Organization of China Painters (WOCP), headquartered in Oklahoma City, OK. The China Painter is the official quarterly publication of the World Organization of China Painters. There is a national museum at the national WOCP headquarters in Oklahoma City. Member pieces are selected each year by vote for an annual year-long exhibit at the national museum. The websites for exploration are: wocp.org and ohioworldorganizationofchinapainters.com
