Rolling hills of shattered glass contained within a concrete enclosure. This piece falls perfectly in line with much of Maya Lin's other work. Her eco-friendly work usually carries an emphasis on existing between the border of the natural world and the built environment. Groundswell embodies that philosophy to a T. The round, rolling ridges are made up of sharp shards of glass, creating that dialogue that arises from a natural sum comprised of unnatural parts. Lin has stated that she wishes her art to exist on a dividing line, balancing between two opposing sides, and Groundswell strikes that balance expertly.
