When the artist was looking for an image or motif for the art he was continually drawn to the unique curving line that the Cuyahoga River makes on the map as it meanders to Lake Erie. This contour is the predominate feature in the artwork. Water is also a feature; showing the presence of Lake Erie and its connection to Cleveland. Textures of shipping artifacts are inbedded in the surface further emphasizing the importance of water in shaping Cleveland. Materials used were Epoxy resin with glass cloth
