In 1903 George Bellows, Sr. -- father of artist George Bellows Jr. -- designed and built this home at 144 South Monroe Avenue. A notable architect, George Sr. designed many of Columbus’ landmark buildings, and he used what is now an apartment in the residence as his office. The house features many of George’s trademark design flourishes, including various window shapes and a bowed window. George Bellows Jr. lived here with his family before he left Columbus to seek fame as an artist in New York City.
