Edward Thomas Paul founded the E.T. Paul Co. in 1895 as a blacksmith shop. One of the company’s first services was placing rubber-covered pads on the hooves of horses so grand ladies and gentlemen of the era could ride their carriages in genteel quiet. It was only natural then, that with the arrival of the first motor cars, Columbus's carriage trade turned to E.T. Paul Co. for rubber replacement tires.
The business opened as a tire company in 1919 in a two story brick building, which now has one floor removed and replaced with a parapet. The company has been in the Paul family for four generations … and, is now one of the nation’s oldest tire dealerships, specializing in High-Performance tires.
Historic photographs of ET Paul’s early days hang in Carabar next door. As you move on from E.T. Paul, walk around the back of Carabar, to find a graffiti mural painted by the Black Sail Collective which was also responsible for the fence just across the street.
