The 105 million dollar Court of Common Pleas building was designed by DesignGroup, Arquitectonica, & RicciGreene Associates in 2011. The state of the art building is Gold-level certified as a sustainable site through the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. It is connected to other buildings in the complex by almost 30,000 ft of tunnels, has a green roof that grows 10 different kinds of flowering sedum, and contains 32 courtrooms used by 17 judges and 9 magistrates. The building mirrors form and function—the glass exterior is meant to convey that justice should be transparent.
The Franklin County Courthouse Complex also includes the Franklin County offices, Franklin County Municipal Court, Juvenile Court, and Domestic Relations Court. The complex hosts an open green space for civic use and a rain garden at the corner of Mound and Front streets.
