Frank Welling
Frank Welling (1885-1977), a self-taught artist, lived in Worthington for over 90 years, and graduated from Worthington High School in 1903. He served as Chief Clerk of the Supreme Court of Ohio from 1927-1948. Welling was active in many community organizations, including the Worthington Historical Society, the Worthington Choral Society, The Worthington Players Club, Worthington LIttle League Baseball and was a sponsor of High School athletics. In 1975 Welling Field at Worthington High School was named in his honor. Welling documented many of Worthington's buildings in his later life through painting. The Beers Tavern was constructed in the 1810s at the southeast corner of Stafford Avenue and High Street, where the Worthington Library now stands. The building was the only Palladian-inspired example of architecture in Worthington, and burned around 1888.
