Mark Russell
Mark Russell (1880-1967) was an artist and designer. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City and worked as a designer for the Von Gerichten Art Glass Company in New York. He designed windows for the Broad Street Presbyterian Church and the LeVeque Tower in Columbus and was an art instructor at Columbus Art School (now the Columbus College of Art and Design), and the Columbus School for Girls. The Russell House, which they named “Green Gables” at 5807 N. High Street was purchased by Mark and Mary Russell in 1919. The property included three acres of land surrounding the house, which the couple filled with gardens. Mark Russell created the artwork for this March 1926 cover of “House Beautiful” which reflects the style and gardens found at his Worthington home, “Green Gables”.
