About the Event:

The Columbus International Film & Animation Festival isn’t just for adults. Saturday Morning Cartoons from Around the World — a long-running festival tradition — features family-friendly cartoons. This year, children of all ages can hunt UFOs, sell stars, explore a Singaporean bazaar, and more in this selection of colorful animation. Access to Saturday Morning Cartoons from Around the World is included in the festival pass. Tickets for adults cost $3 each. Admission for children under 12 is free. Can’t make it to this screening? There’s another showing of Saturday Morning Cartoons from Around the World at CCAD on Saturday, March 24, at 12:30 p.m. CORKY Director: Ty Primosch Runtime: 5 minutes, 45 seconds A corkscrew with a screw loose battles a giant glass bottle to uncork seven magical lightning bugs trapped inside. This award-winning short is our debut independent animation. It was animated from home, over a six-year period. Uncork the magic! The Encounter Director: Thomas DeCarlo Runtime: 13 minutes, 18 seconds A rookie government agent goes off on his own to hunt down his first UFO and earn the respect of his peers. Guess How Much I Love You: An Enchanting Easter Director: Jo Boag Runtime: 30 minutes When Little Nutbrown Hare sees a pure-white fawn in the moonlight, his friends think he’s making it up. They venture into the next valley to find her, but, as their doubt grows, she is right there hiding on the patches of white snow, thinking it’s a big game of hide and seek. STARS Director: Han Zhang Runtime: 5 minutes Grandpa and grandson are street sellers; they sell stars in a town near the shore. One night, they run out of the stars … The Wishing Cranes Directors: Ellen Arnold, Kaiya Telle, Thomas Anderholm Runtime: 3 minutes, 26 seconds When an orphaned paperboy fails to spend time with his light-hearted younger sister, she makes a wish by folding his papers into a thousand cranes that magically come to life and fly away. The siblings get whisked away with the cranes throughout their village and along their journey get to spend the time together they didn’t have before. Two Balloons Director: Mark C. Smith Runtime: 9 minutes, 8 seconds Two travelers return to a place crossed by stars and clouds where love is at the beginning of everything. After Meteor’s Trail Director: Delphino S. Huang Runtime: 1 minute, 40 seconds An animation tribute to the advancement of technology and the spirit of exploration. When Comes the Rain Director: Brian Giovanni Runtime: 1 minute, 44 seconds The local birdbath is empty and the hot sun won’t let up. An ambitious bird gathers his flock to bring the rain down upon them. But how far will he go to get what he wants? The Puppy Trials Director: Thomas and Becky Nicol Runtime: 4 minutes Written by third-grader Claire Hartman, “The Puppy Trials” tells the story of Big Jim, an aging German shepherd who takes it upon himself to teach shelter puppies how to behave well so they can get adopted. New Toy Director: Rogerio Boechat Runtime: 6 minutes, 25 seconds On a boring day, a baby gets a teddy bear from his mom. The new toy becomes his best friend. Over time, it turns into a tedious object until destiny surprises him …
