Led by acclaimed artist Kit Palencar, this immersive experience seamlessly blends foundational watercolor methods with a unique sense of expressive spontaneity. With personalized guidance tailored to your individual skill level and aspirations, you'll gain confidence in wielding this versatile medium. Whether you're a novice eager to explore or an experienced artist seeking to deepen your practice, 'Building a Watercolor Landscape' promises a unique and enriching opportunity to engage with watercolor in a playful and expressive manner. Through a series of hands-on exercises and demonstrations, participants will learn how to: - Create thumbnail sketches of common Midwestern landscapes, then translate these sketches into your paintings. - Gain a comprehensive understanding of watercolor materials, including brushes, paints, and paper, as well as fundamental techniques such as washes, glazing, and wet-on-wet. - Learn how to evoke mood and narrative in your own work through careful observation and nuanced application of watercolor. Adapt a loose and “free” style of working with brushes to create texture, atmosphere, and emotion. - Explore the beauty of the natural world through Wyeth-inspired exercises focused on depicting landscapes, flora, and fauna with a keen eye for detail and a sense of poetic simplicity. In this workshop, you will embark on a journey to unleash your creativity as you delve into the art of watercolor, guided by Palencar's expertise. *Students will need to bring all supplies listed to participate in this workshop. WORKSHOP DETAILS: Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Please pack your lunch for this workshop daily. If you cannot, there are local places where staff can recommend ordering boxed lunches. Students will need to pick up these lunches during their designated lunch. Payment in full is due 14 days before the workshop start date. All deposits, $50, are non-refundable unless CVAC cancels the workshop. Click here to learn more: www.cvart.org/scholarships INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION: Kit Palencar Born in Fairview Park, Ohio in 1992, Palencar currently resides in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and has received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University in the spring of 2018 with a major in painting and drawing. Graduating from the University of Akron in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Palencar was awarded the top-honor scholarship at the Myers School of Art as well as receiving an additional private scholarship for his watercolors through the Frederic Whitaker and Eileen Monaghan Whitaker Foundation. Having exhibited in galleries across Northeast Ohio and collectors ranging from around the globe, Palencar has taught foundation drawing and life drawing courses at The University of Akron, Kent State University, and several painting & drawing courses at the Canton Museum of Art for the last six years.
