This beloved Lancaster landmark is a replica of a fountain from Etain, France. Andy Bauman, who operated a bakery, grocery store, and ice cream shop at 149 W. Main Street, is recognized for sparking the idea of the fountain. He had purchased a similar fountain on a trip to New York City and placed it in his front yard at 152 W. Wheeling Street. Local civic boosters dispatched Mr. Bauman to NYC to purchase a suitable fountain for the town square. Bauman found the gorgeous 26½ feet tall fountain at the world-renowned J.W. Fiske & Co., and he was delighted to bring this amazing and impressive work of art to his hometown. The fountain has graced downtown Lancaster with its beauty since 1890.
