Plaque Text

"This sculpture is one of ten sculptures created in 2011-2012 to celebrate Columbus Bicentennial Birthday and specifically to honor the Historic Near East side community. All ten of this sculptures were designed and created by seventh grade students at Monroe Traditional School under the direction of Megan Evans. These characters represent the merchants of Mt. Vernon Avenue, whose story has been preserved in the work of Aminah Robinson's "A Street Called Home". We hope you will travel the community to see the entire collection of merchants created by these wonderful young artists."
