The Lincoln Theatre first opened in 1928 as the Ogden Theatre, a prestigious venue for black artists and performers. One of two theaters of the area’s original four still standing, it is a landmark in African-American jazz history, with renowned artists such as Count Basie, Miles Davis, James Brown, and Columbus native Nancy Wilson gracing its stage. Having completed a $13.5 million renovation funded by a partnership of public and private support, the Lincoln is a multi-use, state-of-the-art performing arts and education center serving a diverse central Ohio community. It is owned by the City and managed by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA), which also manages the Ohio, Palace, and Southern Theaters. The Lincoln Theatre also houses resident Columbus arts organizations, including the Jazz Arts Group which occupies the entire third floor, including rehearsal rooms, media and recording lab, and multi-functional classrooms.
