The piece was cast in 18 pieces from Anderson's Maquette. The cost was estimated to be $50,000 in December 1972. Dr. Anderson was chairman of art department, Muskingum College, New Concord, OH. He completed the statue during a sabbatical in Italy.; cast at the Fonderia Louige Tommise in villiage of Pietrasanta near Pisa. Anderson visited Philadelphia and Boston to research existing renderings of Franklin. Anderson is known for abstract work- did multiple portrait sculptures at Muskingum.; Funds raised mostly from the Columbus Bar Association and the Columbus Foundation.
