Umm features a Wex–commissioned assemblage of off-kilter sculptures inspired by music and food, which Sahar Khoury uses as symbols of inclusion, exclusion, and transformation. The show's title translates to mother in Arabic and references Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, a symbol of pan-Arab unity whose live concerts were long broadcast throughout the Arab world on the first Thursday of each month. In that spirit, a curated playlist will be shared on every first Thursday during the exhibition’s run.
