The 4-S Auditorium Building at 281 E. Whittier Street was built in 1890. The building was originally owned by Frank Herboltzeimer and was operated as a movie theatre.
In 1932, the building was sold to the Steelton Theatre Group and continued to operate as a movie theatre. In 1949, the building went again to the Fred W. Rowland family. The building was leased to multiple tenants and rumor has it that one of the former tenants ran a gambling hall.
Finally, in 1962, the establishment was purchased by the auditorium Building Company and continues today to operate as the 4-S Club, or 4 Saints Club – a society of four different catholic charitable and social organizations each named after a different saint.
