The Colonial/Greek revival, brick, two and a half story Borger Home at 820 Bryden Road was built in 1903 for Samuel and Mary Borger. Samuel was the president of Borger Brothers boilermakers and president of Columbus City Council. As was often the case with many grand “vanity” homes of the day, the owners, who worked for years to reach the point of success to afford them, died shortly after moving in. Samuel was no exception. He died soon after moving here in November 1903, but Mary remained until 1946 when the building was divided into nine apartments. Since then, the home opened as La Grande Flora Bed & Breakfast in January 1998 and is now a private residence.
Both the Queen Anne style frame houses at 904-912 Bryden Road are architecturally referenced as Victorian Male/Female pairs. Built around 1888, 912 was built first by brothers Arthur and Grayson Osborn who were both bookkeepers. Arthur died in 1890, only two years after building his dream home, and his widow stayed in the home until 1905. In 1909, Grayson was found guilty of embezzling $28,000 from his employer the Huntington Bank, and was sentenced to 6 ½ years in Leavenworth Prison.
