The Old North Columbus Arch marks the southernmost boundary of North Columbus, an 1847 stagecoach town that predated the University’s founding. The heart of North Columbus is centered around the commercial buildings on North High, between Hudson Street and Arcadia Avenue, but the town was originally laid out by Solomon and George Washington Beers to extend to Woodruff Avenue. Civil War-era houses and a log cabin that once belonged to the Beers’ father David Beers, a resident in the 1790s, are scattered around the neighborhood.
