William Schock studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and was a professor of art at Kent State University. Nationally recognized as a painter, one of his well-known local works is a series of murals depicting sports at Kent State's Memorial Gymnasium. Schock's oil painting is rich in color. He does not use realistic color, but employs color in the style of the impressionist for expression and to suggest subject matter. The painting has been placed off-center purposely; if centered, it would be too static.
