Harold Kitner was an alumnus of the Cleveland Institute of Art and began teaching art and art history at Kent State University in 1947. He also served as the Akron Beacon Journal art critic from 1948 to 1962. After his retirement from Kent State in 1990, he became the director of the Institute of the South Florida Art Center.
